Re: Team for coming season
Interesting that Bolon played. He isnt from South Carolina. He is a totally unknown to the organizers. Clearly he impressed his teammates enough to be provided with a large role(though by the looks of it the top player was an incoming freshman to USC).
Either way this hopefully is a good omen of things to come.

We're old enough to remember Dean Smith "Blue/White"
How about "Maroon/Black" since those are popular with the players?

Re: Team for coming season
Young people like "popular" preferences more than "official" rules.
In fact, "Ain't nobody gonna tell me what to do!" is a popular response to any "official" rule.
From my 8 years experience as a school bus driver for middle school after I retired. I had to do it because Swampy wouldn't.

Had Coach Kelsey on the Holy City Hoops podcast to kick off this season and get a few thoughts on each of the new players:

Re: Team for coming season
Bolon suffered some sort of ankle/knee injury. He posted a picture on Instagram of him on crutches, so he’s going to miss some time, but it doesn’t look to be extremely long-term.

Watched some practice today. Lot of fast and lengthy good shooters on the team. Easier to shoot good with no one defending though. Manly doing drills. No real scrimmage today that I saw. Was 30 minutes late arriving so missed some of it?

Yep. I also saw us hit a lot of unguarded 3's, whatever that's worth.
Better than missing them.
Coaching staff still excited about 11-deep possible starters.

Re: Team for coming season
Looking ahead very early. 8 players getting meaningful minutes this year that will be back next year with a full season playing togeather behind them. This year looking good but future is also very bright.

Re: Team for coming season
Really Unfortunate
Not unusual that he would choose to transfer out. I think under the new set of rules we need to get used to more guys not sticking it out, and looking for greener pastures. Fa'mir's usg% and output was down from his true freshman year at Radford. Wouldn't stun me if he moves to reunite with Mike Jones who is now at UNCG.
What is puzzling is making this move now and burning half a year of PT in the process. Wonder if more ever leaks out.

Re: Team for coming season
Wow. I’m very surprised. PK has said multiple times lately how much coaching and mentoring he’s personally put into Ali, and not just on the basketball side. Gotta sting for coach.
From a basketball perspective we were in desperate need of another ball handler with Ali on the roster. Will be interesting to see who steps up…. But this probably isn’t the worst thing to happen long runIMO. Ali led the team in dribbling by a huge margin. Might see some better ball movement and half court offense. His advanced stats were ugly.
Hope he indeed finds greener pasture.

Re: Team for coming season
Its tough to be really successful as a sub 6 foot guard in D1.
You have to be exceptional at everything else and at minimum you have to be really fast. Ali was fast but I don't think he was that fast. I think long term Ali would have been a guy we recruited over.
Hopefully Nikita can play the point bc that will solve a lot of issues. Otherwise its gonna be some combination of increased Underwood minutes, Reyne manning the point, and Sechan. This dampens the conference outlook significantly. The CAA is decent with Hofstra, JMU and Towson showing fight.
It also puts us in position that we have to get an upperclassman transfer next year.
