Opening Volleyball weekend

I went and watch 2 of the 3 matches this weekend at the CofC volleyball tournament. We lost 2 of 3 matches. Eeked out a 3-2 win against Davidson, got swept by a Mercer team that is very much improved over it's 1-25 record last year and had a 2-1 lead against Kent State only to blow it and lose 3-2.

They showed flashes of brilliance but you can definitely see they were not in sync much compared to previous years teams at the beginning. Service and hitting errors were a problem, for sure. We've got some great potential to dramatically improve throughout the year, especially with a tall front line.

Another tough loss last night to Eastern Washington in 5 sets. When you are integrating freshman and new players in the rotation which hasn't changed in a while, this will lead to this.

I saw 3 of 4 matches. They are out of sync!
Also the setting is not good which is surprising
considering our setter was conference setter
of the year. They will get better!!!

I saw the game last night too. It seems as if they are not playing as a team. The fluidity of movement on the court isn't very good right now. They've got to communicate and anticipate where each player is on the court. And yes, the setting was atrocious last night.

We knew we'd miss Darby, right?

Growing pains. We have talent and it showed with all of the long games especially the 3rd one last night. I believe they will keep getting better each match and still do well in the Colonial. Kudos to the former Wando Warrior who came in and was flawless. The west coast team was good especially #6 and her jump serve. We all hate losing but lessons were learned in real games and that is important.

I think CJK scheduled light because he knew they would struggle at the beginning of the season. All the teams they have played so far have been ranked somewhere in the 190 to 300 range. You can't lose all the firepower they have and expect to be in the top 100. That is why the rallies are longer. I just hope he doesn't wear #6 out before the end of the season. Losing Darcy has increased her touches 2 fold. They need better passing to get #7, #10, #17, and #20(Maddie, Cara, Sloan, and Krissy) more involved in the offense. A lot of the passes off serve receive were 1's meaning the setter had no choice but to go to the outside pin.

The team won their first CAA match of the season, coming back and winning 3 straight sets after being down 2-0 to Towson.

Yes, it was an exciting match. Should have never lost that first set being up 24-19 serving for the set only to lose 27-25. Came roaring back in the final 3 and demolished Towson in the deciding set.

1pm today against Delaware.

Won 3-0 against Delaware. Slow start in set 1 but they woke up and won the next two pretty solidly. A lot of great volleys between the two teams today.

We need a huge crowd Friday night. Hosting Hofstra on Friday then Northeastern Sat. Hofstra is the other 4-0 team and has an overall of 16-2. Looks like they really havent played anyone but ill let volleyballCoug tell us how high up in the RPI they are.

Tough loss tonight to Hofstra. Didn't start off well, especially in first set, but played better the rest of the match. Hofstra has a really good team this year. They have some great international talent.

It was a valiant effort against the team that I think will win the conference this year. Hofstra was good as advertised although our mistakes certainly cost us. The setting continues to be poor. They play Northeastern tonight at 7pm at TD

Came back nicely with a 3-1 win over Northeastern. It looked like we were actually going to win the first set this time but somehow managed to give it away and lost the opening frame 25-22.
I think it is a psychological thing-we just HAVE to drop the first set before we can actually get to playing.

Northeastern is probably the only team to lose as much to graduation as the college. Hofstra is the team to beat right now so I think the CofC actually played better in the loss to them than the win against Northeastern. It seemed like CofC's best play last night was to keep the points going until Northeastern made a mistake. A win is still a win and I am amazed at how the volleyball team is always in the running even when the team is not a strong as other years.

New official RPI is out today. http://www.ncaa.com/rankings/volleyball ... eyball-rpi

We're 125, which puts us 4th in the CAA, behind Hofstra (101), Towson (109), and UNCW (112)

Down 2-0 to Towson, the volleyball team takes the final 3 sets to beat 2nd place Towson 3-2. Cougs now in a tie for first with Hofstra having the tie breaker. Towson's first loss at home all season and only the 4th total. Impressive two wins over Towson this year.

Volleyball sweeps UNCW 3-0 on Sr night. Very spirited match. Final home game at 5pm against Elon.

Another sweep for Volleyball. 3-0 over Elon. Temporarily in first place as Hofstra did not play 2 matches this week. Hofstra has 3 left to play and 2 matches to play for the Volleyball Cougs. @Northeastern on 11/12 and the big one to likely decide the conference @Hofstra on 11/14.

UNCW is assured the 4 seed with 1 win and the top 3 seeds still up in the air. If we beat Northeastern or Towson loses just 1 match, we will do no worse than 2nd.

Bottom line Cougars control their own destiny. Win the last 2 they win the conference.
