Fowle Trophy (5th time)

Post by hungry »

from P&C-

The College of Charleston, which closed out the season with a fourth-place finish at the three-day ICSA/Gill Coed Dinghy National Championship on Lake Travis in Austin, Texas, was honored for the fifth time in program history as the winner of the Leonard M. Fowle Trophy.

The award goes to the best overall collegiate team in the nation based on a compilation of results throughout the season from the ICSA Women’s Singlehanded, Men’s Singlehanded, Match Racing, Women’s Dinghy, Team Racing and Coed Dinghy National Championships.

“Winning the Fowle Trophy is such a thrill for our tremendous team and coaches,” College of Charleston Director of Sailing Greg Fisher said. “(Head coach) Ward (Cromwell) and (assistant coach) Mitch (Hall) did a superb job leading the team right up to the last day of nationals. These results are indicative of the depth our program has developed and what we have to look forward to in the future.”

College of Charleston junior skipper Mac Mace was one of four Cougars sailors to be named to the Intercollegiate Sailing Association All-America team, earning his second career All-American nod.

Mace was also one of the top four finalists for the Everett B. Morris Trophy, which is awarded annually to the College Sailor of the Year. Chris Barnard of Georgetown won the award after leading the Hoyas to the ICSA/Gill Coed Dinghy National Championship title.

College of Charleston seniors Alyssa Aitken and Perry Emsiek were named ICSA Crew All-Americans for the third and second time of their careers respectively, while senior skipper Zeke Horowitz was recognized as an honorable mention All-American for the second year in a row
