First off Cremins would not go to either Georgia or Alabama....
Not Georgia because well his F-ing name is on a court less than a hours drive at Georgia Tech.
Not Alabama or Virginia because both those programs want younger candidates.
I think Cremins has a lot going for him here. So I think he will stay.

Maybe the Prince of Tides will win the Collegeinsider tourney and bounce to one of those schools.
Re: Georgia, Alabama and now Virginia
Didn't ask if he'd go.
I hope he stays.
Just know that, if $$$ is what he wants, he'd make $2-3 million more over five years at UVa than he makes here.
I agree about Georgia. (Although he'd certainly have name recognition.)
That's all.

As to Conroy ...
Not so long ago, I had a fascinating discussion with his predecessor, who expressed some regret at not taking a lateral move (Loyola, Towson State) when he had the chance. Citadel coaches -- no matter how good -- don't get a ton of chances to move. And the longer you stay, the statistical likelihood is, the worse your record gets.
I've actually heard Conroy mentioned for Furman, if/when that opens up again.
Now, don't get me wrong. I think Ed Conroy has MUCH stronger ties to The Citadel than Pat Dennis, or even Randy Nesbitt. But i also know that Conroys resume reads like a travelogue.

i'm not sure about the loyalty factor in old coaches. they're not like fans. its a job, & i don't think he would have a problem taking the ga. job with gtech right down the road.

Re: Georgia, Alabama and now Virginia
You mean he would not have a problem with coaching Georgia against Georgia Tech on a court with his name on it and championship banners are up in the rafters that he is associated with and ohh btw Georgia happens to be Georgia Tech's biggest rival? After all that you really think he would consider that???
Please tell me you are not that dumb.

Besides, with the succession plan in place, with full training in post-game interviews, we have Wooden-in-waiting already on board.
Re: Georgia, Alabama and now Virginia
I don't think he'd have a major problem taking the Georgia job ...
if it was worth taking.
THAT'S the question. Not whether he'd be welcome at Tech, where I suspect they'd give him a major standing "o".
Still, your point has some merit.

Re: Georgia, Alabama and now Virginia
i agree, pat blew it a few years back. if you put together a few above par years, consider all offers & don't look back
Re: Georgia, Alabama and now Virginia
too many years have passed for an old coach to not consider a good offer from a former rival.

I work for ISP at Georgia Tech...The fans and students would not, would not give him a standing "o", they would throw things and boo him off of his own named court. As a matter of fact....Virginia would be the same since Virginia comes here.....Alabama maybe he would be alright, but I think he is going to retire at Charleston.

I don' think he has any interest in coaching anywhere but here. Situation is pretty ideal with location (close to his home in HH), solid pay, low pressure to win, new arena etc. I also think he is genuinely enjoying building the program back. He also calls most of th eshots as it relates to the basketball program and answers to ad in title only. He has a good amount of flexibiliy in scheduling, recruiting etc.

Seriously? I didn't think they HATED the guy. How do you figure? I don't know any ACC fan that does not think highly of him, GA-tech or not.cougar2004 wrote:I work for ISP at Georgia Tech...The fans and students would not, would not give him a standing "o", they would throw things and boo him off of his own named court.

You mean, Saint Bobby of Hilton Head isn't well-liked at Tech?
Goodness gracious and heaven forbid!
The reality is, Bobby Cremins has made a career out of being beloved.

No He is well loved at TECH, if he showed up in another rivals colors then they wouldn't like that

Re: Georgia, Alabama and now Virginia
Seriously, he could show up in Central Correctional Pinstripes, and they'd cheer him at Tech.
Re: Georgia, Alabama and now Virginia
Seriously though, I think Georgia should hire Bernie Madoff as coach, with Al Parrish as DBO.
Could you imagine the fundraising?
