Wow. I hadn’t heard any rumors of Earl to BC. On its face it’s kinda a head scratcher for BC. ACC jobs are few and far between so I get why Earl jumped, but BC has been terrible.

Onto Matt Robert’s biggest decision of his professional life. Would Kelsey consider us or he waiting for a bigger job? Milan should be strongly considered. And I’d make the call to Gregg.

A coach at Pitt I would not mind being next coach. Could this be why our players are tx. Maybe they had prior warning.

Are there any years left in EG's contract?

Potential Candidates in no particular order:

1. Milan Brown-Pitt
2. Bob Richey-Furman
3. Jordan Mincey-assistant at Florida and former CofC assistant
4. Mark Byington
5. Amir Abdur Rahim-Kennesaw State HC and former CofC assistant
6. Jay McCauley-Wofford

Any retired coaches we may make a run at like we did with Cremins?

Please don’t hire an executive search committee.

Pat Kelsey is the coach at Winthrop. He has been terrific, but backed out of a job at UMASS after signing. A la what Greg did with us.

You got to call Gregg Marshall right? He is the obvious choice if he can atone for what went wrong at Wichita.

Bob Richey seems like an obvious choice to at least interview. Not sure if he takes a high risk move given his established.

My "hot take" lists
1. Gregg Marshall - If he gives a full account of what he did at WSU. (probably can ask Earl and Kresse for off the record character refs)
2. Bob Richey- Has Charleston ties with long career as Assistant at CSU. Seems like a fast riser.
3. Pat Kelsey. Great record at Winthrop though dont think he comes here.

Fall Back Option Milan Brown.

Not Byington. We've all moved on.
Rahim is good recruiter and coach, my first choice from your list.
Didn't really notice our other former assistants when they were here, but could be ok (Brown & Mincey?).
Matt needs to have at least a courtesy visit with JK, for advice & recommendations. Guess his UNC background precludes us getting a Dookie here. (joke)
We need someone efforting to hang on to Galloway & Harvey & 4 recruits along with Copeland & Houston, long shot for Willis. I guess the portal is one-way, only out, no matter who we hire, so no Jasper, Eppes or King.
Happy for the Mrs. & the boys as far as the extra $$. I told her this day was coming.
Helps our reputation for ability to hire a new coach what with having the NCAA bid and the guys going to the NBA and a coach going to ACC job. Also, don't discount draw of the city and our facilities and the ESPN tournament here every year, not to mention our frequent pre-season invitations.
Maybe everyone will forget about the nasty buy-outs of nasty coaches dumped on us by former all-but-forgotten fund-raiser presidents (who didn't raise that much for our little endowment).
Does the former BC coach still live on the I of P? Trade for Earl and an assistant sailing coach to be named later?

Didn't you say we couldn't hire AJ or any one else with abuse issues after Dougie? Has Marshall had enough time to get past that hurdle? Questionable.

CofC sports article says new coach search will start immediately. Hope that means already started?

Sucks to hear guys, hope you bounce back. Archie Miller is available as well, though not sure his connections are viable for CofC. Hope you guys get a good one. A good CofC is good for the league

My first call would be Milan Brown. Beloved by the players, good recruiter, great schematic coach. His departure coincided with our drop in performance. He's worth a serious discussion.

Levelle Moton at NC Central has been mentioned as a candidate for a lot of high level jobs and is apparently revered as a coach who takes mediocre talent and wins consistently.

I'm sure we'll have lots of good options.

Happy for Earl and his family.

Would like someone who recruits better than mediocre talent.
IMHO, the school & city (and pretty girls) should attract pretty good talent.

Everett German on Bobby Hartin says the Grant news came about over the weekend. BC’s AD called Matt Roberts earlier this weekend. He says that BC flew Grant up to Boston this weekend for an interview.

Hey if USC wants to unload Frank Martin, this is an ideal place for him.

Congratulations to Coach Grant for jumping some rungs on the ladder from little known Clemson assistant to C of C coach to an ACC job.

I am excited to see what the next coach can accomplish.

If Gamecocks fire Martin and Matt Roberts hires him that would be quite a bit of symmetry.

Eisberg was talking to Jeff Goodman and he basically said Marshall was a complete non-starter because he punched a player.

Tell Matt that Matt Doherty isn't available.
That would also be symmetry.

Very nice & gracious person but a Very Good decision by Coach Grant because:

1). 2 years left on contract. Probably wasn’t going to get an extension
more than a year if any.
2). Coaching - slacking over the last few seasons and no bench help. JD Powell
is far from a Associate Head. Went from Director of Basketball Ops to Asso. HC in
six season due to attrition!
3). Inconsistent play. Run up the score to 35 points in one game and lose by
double digits to the say team the next day. Getting out played - Columbus State
4). Abandoned his own defensive philosophy or weren’t effective applying it.
5). Several bad recruiting seasons in a row and several transfers of projected key players.
6). This years rebuild going into an evening deeper rebuilt for next year if he stayed.
7). In general, the program was/is heading in the wrong direction.

Positive: probably had the best recruiting class this year since arriving.

Both Marc Proto (Strength and Conditioning) and Luke Simons (Director of Basketball Operations) are headed to Boston. That was announced today. Not surprising moves by Grant.

Good for both! Proto actually was let go with the hiring of Coach Kelsey.
Kelsey brought own director of strength & conditioning. Only heard good
things about Simons.
