These noble pets were named for King Charles I and were bred by his son Charles II, after whom our fair city & colony were named. Samuel Pepys said Charles II was more interested in his dogs than in ruling Britain.
Hofstra was formerly The Flying Dutchmen, now The Pride. We probably won't share our Holy City Pluff Mud Porter with a lion. Or our Savannah Brown Ale, if it were available here.
