3-9-2010 Cougar Baseball 2010 Synopsis:
Pitching depth better than years past. Team does not have a dominant pitcher, but so far a lot of decent performances. Seeing young ptichers gaining experience. Older/season pitchers trying to keep form. Tommy Schiller has stepped up his pitching game - providing Monte quality from a senior, needed depth as a mid reliever, possible closer, or Saturday starter. Our pitchers should take note of his aggressive, fearless, bulldog mentality approach to pitching. Stewart - is the real deal. Peterson - trying to regain freshman form. Good performances for weekday freshamn. Key - Decker becomining a quality count on pitcher he was brought in to be. Showing promise. Bullpen - not enough opportunity to grade but I worry that we have yet to see a real stopper step up.
UP In The Air:
Still to date three positions are yet to be settled. 1st base. Left field. Catcher.
Key Player in this equation - Epley. Plays all 3 positions - but has been relegatted primarily to DH. Monte keeping defensive load light on Eplyey while the fight for these positions play out. Monte may have to by necessity plate Epley as the cougar receiver behind the plate. Krall has been way to inconsistent defensively to be the every day guy. Staff loves Knox - won Bama game Sunday - for now has locked down right filed. Need more power in line-up - giving Hana chance to get on track. Blake to prove his worth. Brittle to get consistent. Key guy - Rodriguez. Has power potential - way to many bad pitches being chased.
Bergman - key to the teams engine. Should be back NLT 1 April. Possibly WCU series. Competitor having to sit and rest inflamation in hand. Has been at best 60-70% healthy this year. When he gets back and comfortable everday in the lineup it will allow Monte to settle on his team lineup offensively and defensively. Two key conference series this month w/o Bergman. Team wil have to continue to matue and find ways to win.
On The Upswing:
Eplye and Leeds maturing into everday plus player. Rakar - picking up where Clay McCord left off as conference best lead off hitter. Schiller. Stewart.
Nice Suprise: The big "D.R." Jesse Mesa.
Nedd 2 Step It Up: Kral. Brittle. Brittle..
Continue on the Road: Freshman Pitching.
Where Are You - Hanna and the big bat bombs.

When is Stewart going to pitch? If he is the real deal, why hasnt he pitched yet?
