Might as well start a new topic dedicated to Coach Kelsey.

Lot of work to do. Needs to shore up the recruiting class which took some hits with Earl leaving us.
Most importantly keep the guys in the fold.

I’m still shocked we got him. I didn’t think we had a chance.

There are a lot of good basketball players currently without a home both HS and transfers. Go get em coach!

The energy was definitely on display at today's press conference. A few things I liked to hear:
- Joe Chealey was on the search committee
- Kelsey gave credit to Coach Grant for laying the foundation. Also said in addition to speaking with Joe, he had a phone conversation with Jarrell Brantley last night.
- Talked a lot about engaging the students and community

This hire is huge. He has the “it” factor and a proven track record. I see great things in our future.

Swamp going to have love hate relationship, Kelsey wants every shot to either be a layup/dunk or a 3 pointer.

Really interesting how everyone yesterday went out of their way to praise Joe Chealey. Pat Kelsey who apparently recruited him and Matt Roberts.

Clearly the hope is he hangs up pro basketball and gets on the coaching tract. Obviously only a matter of time. He is still rehabbing his achilles injury. No one is paying him right now though a DBO contract is probably a pittance. Wouldnt shock me that he tries to give it one more go to get pro money.

A little off topic, but Mark Prosser just went from WCU to Winthrop. Nice move by him. Goes from an impossible coaching job at WCU to the cush job of the big fish in the big south.

Hopefully this means that Justin Gray will follow the Kelsey down and fill out the staff.

And now Justin Gray is the HC at WCU.

Shame we weren't able to bring him in, but establishes a pipeline of coaching talent.

We would be moaning about hiring someone with his resume. Only 2 years on court coaching at Winthrop. Prior to the he was DOB at Wake a year or 2.

Fair enough, but I can see how it was a reasonable choice for Western. Keeps things in the same system. Likely makes it easier for them to try and hold onto the players/momentum they had under Prosser.

It is interesting that Winthrop interviewed him for Kelsey's job not anyone else on the staff.

Will be on an interview with Jordon Schultz at 11:30 this morning. He is a basketball analyst for bleacher report. Think it can be watched via CofC basketball twitter. Whether live or recorded I have no idea.
