Had we beat them, things would be interesting. Not so much now.

Drexel was neck and neck with Hofstra the whole night. Gave themselves a chance had an open look to tie but missed it.

Three way tie for 7th a game behind
Drexel in a tough spot since both JMU and Towson would seem to have tiebreakers on them. Three way tie is possible then I am not sure how it sorts out.
Of course Drexel controls their own destiny Saturday against NU at home, bit the Huskies are doing the same thing they did last year at the end which is methodically grinding everyone down.

Hofstra appears ragged.

Bobby Hartin now doing a poll asking if the move to the CAA was a “good” move...

Sigh...
Hashing this out in the small controlled situation is dumb.
It was never about this.

Earl however should work on regular scheduling of upper echelon SOCON teams like Wofford, UNCG, ETSU, etc. It just makes sense.

Tony Shaver out at William & Mary.

That team was shaping up to be a favorite next year, so I'm surprised he didn't get the chance to finish it out with Knight, Pierce and the big man transfer.

Not totally surprised. Some of the natives were getting restless and calling for this on their boards. Thought he was a decent coach myself.

Firing Shaver is bonkers....

Who are they gonna get? Who do they think they are gonna get?
That is probably one of the most difficult recruiting jobs in the country.

Lest we forget WM was rated the 9th worst(edit 2nd worst) jobs in the CAA by the coaches of the CAA. Worse than Towson? Towson!
https://watchstadium.com/news/caa-baske ... 1-22-2018/

If this is all about missing the tournament then they should consider moving to the Patriot.

It is crazy. They improved a lot during the season and finished 4th in a rebuilding year. Would have been one of the favorites next year with just about everyone returning. Their players loved him. If I was one of their fans I would be concerned about possible TX,s out of the program.

From their board:
William & Mary, pre-Tony Shaver: 15 seasons, 1 winning CAA record, 2 .500+ CAA seasons
William & Mary, under Tony Shaver: 16 seasons, 8 winning CAA records, 8 .500+ CAA seasons

Their fans seem to universally hate this move. Interesting to see the AD make this move when the fans clearly don't support it by a wide, wide margin.

If I am the ad of a couple underwhelming CAA programs(cough Elon) I would take a long look at Shaver.

Hell, get him on our bench as an associate head coach. That’s how CEG got Milan and that would be a huge get for a year or two.
Can’t believe they let him go. There has to be more to this story.

Reportedly paying a popular coach with their fan base 1.7 million dollars not to coach. Not going over well with their fans. Many are threatening to cut off their donations. Potential dumpster fire in the making

Shaver's contract has offset language so if he takes a job elsewhere the amount they owe goes off the books.

New rumor is John Thompson III for Wiliam and Mary.
I don't know if he will be an upgrade to Shaver, but it is a similar system and he was successful elsewhere with it. Probably would give them a slight bump recruiting wise. Given his name recognition likely wouldnt have significant attrition of players and recruits.

He is 65 now. Most of his family live in that vicinity. Seriously doubt if he takes another job.He can live comfortably the rest of his life and enjoy his grandkids

Pierce looking at grad transfer.

Lots of drama over on the tribe board right now, a few even suggesting shaver fired because of player mutiny. I find that hard to believe.

I feel bad for them right now. I like to see them lose, but I don't want to see them turn into a dumpster fire.

Matheny fired...
Just was gonna respond that those guys transferring does not bode well for Matheny. It may be that they left because he is getting fired.

For a school that is willing to put in resources to improve in sports, Matheny's record was never going to fly.
