First one I have seen shows Northeastern as a 13 seed playing in Hartford. Columbia SC is a site next year

What a fascinating concept.
No doubt other mid and low major leagues will be looking closely at this.

Makes a ton of sense for uber top heavy low majors. SOCON comes to mind.
Not sure how much benefit this is for the CAA which is pretty balanced.

Clearly there is an RPI benefit(which is being increasingly disregarded by the committee anyway). But having the 3-4 best teams bludgeon each other before the tournament? Seems kind of pointless. Also you would have to bake in the seeding after the round robin pairings are announced since you cant punish the team that ends up on the short end of the stick for the top round robin group.

I think it has a bigger chance of backfiring than having good results. The risk reward for this seems way to high in the risk column. For most non P5 conferences, having the best teams beat up on each other some more will just lead to more bad losses than good wins. Especially see it going awry if the second best team is already on the bubble, a loss to the top team will be all of the justification needed to keep them out.

I think revamping conference tournaments to give the top 2 seeds an exceedingly unfair advantage is a better idea (or even just the top seed) is what would be best for most conferences. You really want that top team to go as they have the best shot at the best seed and earning more units.
