We are down to one game needed from what I can tell as new ad posted yesterday on coaches schedule board. We are in the bracketbuster as a home team as can confirm that. I hope they schedule that last game on Saturday December 15 if it is away. I am suprisingly pleased with what I am hearing out of George St on this as if we are scheduling down, we aren't doing it yet.
Charleston, College of / Ryan Freeberg / College of Charleston is looking for the following dates to work out a Home and Home. Could look at playing anywhere from December 13-19. 2012-2013, Home & Home 2012-06-18 12:28:54

See if you can sign up Tulane that week, too. We're gonna be in the Big Easy.

Vermont released their schedule and we play them on saturday Dec 29th at 2 PM. Swampy post above is where we are able to play 4 games for two with the Charleston Classic as long as you are playing someone from the tournament within a week of the tournament. We will supposedly be placed on the opposite side of the bracket from Baylor.
Rumor says our opener is against a CAA school at home and is a one and done with no return game.
Our ad changed some on the schedule board as we may still have two games to schedule based on number of dates we mention looking for games on the board.

Hmmmm.... Because the return game would potentially be on our schedule anyway?

04, it is a guarantee game as suprised me as someone else can correct me but other than Herrion non D-1 opponents, I think the only D-1 team we have ever played at home as a one and done was North Florida and they were D-1 transitional at the time.

My guess its UNCW. With their problems right now they are a hard sell to any team plus it is a simple bus ride so not a lot of arrangements need to be made. Also may be trying to revive a solid rivalry.

Well, I have to tell everyone be prepared to be disappointed as we are doing the one thing I thought we would never see done again at C of C. We are rejoining the rest of the SoCon in scheduling down. I will have to get my letter writing skills going again. Sad but many had said this was going to happen but I was holding out hope this was the one thing that would not change from Cremins era.

Before you get too upset, don't you think we need to give the new staff a break as they haven't had a lot of time coming in so late in the game? Also, getting the Baylor game is a big plus...

H2Oguy, I see plenty of teams still looking for games so no excuse for this. You can give me every line in the book and I will call it out as how about Cremins first year, he managed to fill the schedule with an all D-1 schedule. This is the one aspect I call bull %%&@ on as remember more than half our schedule was already filled. Remember there are almost 350 D-1 schools out there so lots to choose from. The coach is new but it is not like he has never coached anywhere else. The only reason for this game is an easy win that does nothing other than get the water boy in the game and pad the coaches win column. Everyone has a right to an opinion so you have every right to want these games but I am not going to support playing down ever.

Stating the obvious here, but the effects of a ho-hum schedule go beyond the entertainment factor of having good games at TDA. The moves we made last year like going out and getting the TV truck and negotiating some ESPN deals on our own will get harder if we don't have competitive games to offer.
Also could be a bad mark showing up for Wojcik, who apparently came in as a well-respected coach who most thought was toward the head of the line for a big-time gig, and Charleston could've been it. Well, if he's in such good favor with everyone, wouldn't they be knocking down the door to schedule with him? What do his ties to the organizations and more importantly the personnel (who are spread far and wide by now) at Notre Dame, UNC, MSU, Tulsa, and Navy get us at CofC? No doubt too soon to be too down on him, but it's out there.

I hear ya gofer and I don't want these non-D1 games. Just trying to stay positive. I think the Canada trip is great for the team and getting the Baylor game is fantastic. I'm willing to overlook 1 game this year but I see where you are coming from...

H2O, I am cheering for the new coach but remember this was one of Herrion's downfalls also. Sam brings up a good point as assuming ESPN3 will not allow us to put a game on with a non D-1 as never seen that before but I guess does not mean it could not happen. I have heard one of the reasons the new coach feels like he was let go from Tulsa was he played too tough of a non conference schedule so he will not do it here. I hope this is not true. One good thing about the CAA is they have a ban on playing non D-1 games. Again I am trying to stay positive but just don't understand with teams still looking for games, why give up so easily as the year we scheduled Morehead State and Holy Cross, those deals were signed in August. If C of C is smart, release the schedule without showing the non D-1 like a lot of schools in the conference and just add them later on your website. Western Carolina has this down to a science. It allows less time for the fans to know about it.

I'm with gofer on this. Should be no excuse for adding non D1 game or games. Find it hard to believe we cannot find ANY opponent that is D-1.
cougar Club just raised a record amount of money. Non D-1 games will turn that tide quick.

So who are we playing non-D1?
Maybe Wojick thinks this is a joke and needs to pad his resume to jump up the coaching ladder.
(Btw - pleeeeeasse be Florida Christian) I'm sure we'll score 100 this time

It's one game the staff had to schedule in a short period of time. Remember, some of these guys have been on the job for about a month/ month in a half. Scheduling isn't as simple as we need a game, you need a game so let's play. The timing, where the game is played, how much money will it cost, what are the travel plans like (especially factoring in the other games near the proposed game) and how many games do you have to commit to play a huge factor.

Mark, I realize you are new to the College and the board so welcome but you can paint that picture anyway you want it but it is bullshit to have to play a non D-1 opponent. Yes it is not easy to schedule but schools are still looking for games as I write this (Basketball Travelers website if you are not familiar with it). Again not sure if you are a new fan but we scheduled two games in August two years ago as we had been holding out for bigger games, realized we werent going to get them and took two home and home agreements (Morehead State and Holy Cross). Once we were willing to go on the road first, it did not take long to get the games scheduled. The previous coaching staff were all in agreement about not scheduling down and held to that for six years. I wish this coaching staff had the same philosphy but please stop the excuses. If we wanted to play a D-1 opponent, we should agree to go on the road and do it.

Mark, not to pick points but we are still looking for one game I am told so that totally throws everything you said out the door as should the non D-1 game not be the last one you schedule as why can they not continue looking for two D-1 games. Like Sam pointed out above, not sure why the new coach can't call more on his coaching network as it is a pretty big one based on the number of schools he has worked at. You are correct that dates, costs, etc have to match up but other schools are having the same problems. Also if we move to the CAA where they have a non D-1 ban in place, should we not get prepared for this by continuing to play all D-1. Sweetpea also brings up a good point as they have raised a record amount of money so will it continue if we start scheduling down. I also want to offer my seats to anyone who wants them for this game as after watching the famous Florida Christian game, I will never watch a non D-1 game again other than an exhibition.

Never an excuse, especially not this year. Go on the road and play a crappy team if you have to in order to fill out all D1. A loss on the road doesn't hurt as much and a win counts more towards the RPI. You already have 12 home games between the tourney and conference play. There's probably 8 other games on the schedule OOC (not counting the non-d1 being discussed). I know the Vermont is a return game, but at least two of them have to be at home and that's already as many home games as last year (14).
