Orlando burbs are fertile territory for the cougs. We have a strong brand there. On that alone thus kid is likely gonna be good. Sounds like he was a late riser which you like. Thats the type of player when a mid major can get a steal.

his high school maybe 20 minute drive from Rillers. That part of Fl is a hotbed for high school basketball. severel McDonalds All Americans from that region virtually every year. Would not be surprised if Riller and Cheallys families have been in touch with his.

We just signed a 6’9 big from Montverde Academy, Jalen Haynes. Took his previous HS to 6A state championship in FL. Averaged 19 points and 9 rebounds a game.

They needed a skilled big in this class and, boy it looks like they got one. Crazy we’ve gotten 2 guys from montverde in the last 2 years.
Beat out some pretty good programs to get him but I can imagine Earl and JD were able to make a compelling pitch that he will see the floor early and often. He will enter next season as the presumptive starter.
Another very good class on paper. The kid from Orlando can really play and Horton is super productive. Fingers crossed it all translates to the next level.

He was doing prep at Monteverde(called the CBD) and not part of their HS roster, which is the most competitive. They have multiple layers of prep teams and he was on the one that appeared to be the highest echelon(the CBD Prep National). Still on his HS work alone he is a great get for Earl. Particularly given the need. He is a big kid. It is gonna be really important that our staff watches his fitness/weight to maximize the talent.

From all appearances we have a good reputation in the Orlando area. A good thing because that is a very strong high school basketball region

" we have a good reputation in the Orlando area"
Is that because of our many trips to WDW, or in spite of? BTW- 2020 first year since 1976 we haven't been at least once.
