Riller 8 for 14. Rest of team 12 for 41. About a 4th of season gone and not a consistent scorer besides Riller.

This team is a middle of the pack conference team without Riller. UCF couldn’t miss and we couldn’t answer, and Riller’s foul trouble made it almost impossible. Good we have one game in 13 days before we play Richmond.

They played a lot better defense than we did. They were better coached today.

We have an army of 6-4/5 type guards on this squad that are all kind of similar: Richard, Mcluney, Reddish, Epps(to some degree).
Unfortunately those guys, with Tucker, occupy the 5 worst true shooting percentages(weighted % of 2s, 3s, and FTs) on the roster. To put things in further perspective- in the previous two seasons of Cougar basket ball only Samba in 2017 approached shooting as bad as them. And he shouldn't count because he was a non factor.
There are probably a multitude of reasons: Freshman nerves. Some of this is the level of competition. Some guys are clearly in a funk(Jaylen Richard). I think some of it is chemistry, which should get better with time.
I cant imagine it will stay this bad but it will be interesting keeping an eye on this moving forward.

Theough 8 games we still have the same question marks as before the season started, which is concerning. I’m not sure we are going to have a consistent 2nd scorer. Or that we can rebound.
What you hope for is with out depth, a 2nd or 3rd scorer by committee will emerge. We can’t possibly be this poor of a shooting team so there should be some pregression to the mean. But man, so far, no good.
Hopefully JRich gets out of his funk and decides to play more aggressive (while not playing out of control). And for things to start clicking for BT. We really need their athleticism to take the load off Grant.
