Couldn’t be happier for JB. It’s amazing he went from a kid who didn’t get much shine as a high school senior (on a very good Montrose Christian team), having to prep for a year to get legit D1 offers, to go from that to a team moving up in the draft to pluck him is remarkable.

Proud of him and the work he put in. Also major kudos to Earl, the whole staff as well as a big shout out to Milan Brown.

Riller is next.

The more I think about it the more I think JB may actually see significant time on Utah not just the G league affiliate.

NBA teams can only award 2 2-way contracts.
Jae Crowder traded(the best NBA comp of JB.
I suspect JWF is getting a 2 way deal as is the Yale kid.

Not sure what other options are there. They probably have to put him on the roster.

Jarrell flew into Salt Lake yesterday. The Jazz actually play two different summer leagues - a four team round robin in Utah next week, and the Vegas summer league July 5-15 with the rest of the NBA. Schedules below.

Tough first game in Vegas for Brantley offensively - just 3 for 12 from the floor for 7 points . - but he played good defense and pulled down 8 boards. Jazz were much better when he was on the floor. He also avoided the head-scratching plays you see a lot in summer league. JWF and Oni both scored 14. Next game is tomorrow at 8:00.

When Brantley went to the bench in first quarter they iced his hamstring. Hope nothing serious and just precautionary

Happy for Jarrell, but selfishly a bit bummed. The writing was on the wall when Utah signed Miye Oni to a contract, as the math said they could only sign one of their three rookies. He gets to stay on Utah's radar, but he can't exceed 45 days with the Jazz. I think the Jazz are still invested in him, but I believe other teams can sign two-way players if it's to a traditional contract. With a lot of two-ways being handed out to undrafted players, you have to believe teams will be looking at a talent like JB. The only way to keep Brantley's rights under team control would've been to stash him overseas.

Oni's performance must have nudged him ahead in the pecking order.
Its dissappointing for sure. Given how JB started.

Didn’t help that he was hurt for most of the Las Vegas Summer League, the one who had most of the eyes on it. The SLC one was mostly forgotten by the time Vegas was over.

So Jaylen & Stephen Adams aren't the 2 best players?
Free publicity

For those that didnt see...
Brantley had 10 minutes in garbage time for the Jazz's preseason game gains some Aussie pro team.
Did well 5 rebs, 4 assists(including a sweet behind the back play following a tough rebound).

Negative is he only played 10 minutes. He is clearly being looked at as a pure 2 way player kind of like Chealey was for the Hornets last year. The only good news is that the Jazz seem to truly value their developmental players.
