Anybody know what really went on with Tony Ciuffo and CofC athletics? Was there a dispute between him and the AD at the time? I liked Tony and was a great Cougar homer.

Tony was a good PbP. Especially for baseball. Tony did - and does - think a lot of himself.
I don't know the details. But, jobs like that don't last forever.

I like Tony except he's a huge S. Carolina fan.
He might have had more of a problem with Kirkman than the College.

I remember back in 2010 there was a lot of consternation about that. I think some of that might have been because he wanted to spend more time with Nick, his son (who was just going into high school at the time). His son is now one of the top prospects in the Rays system.

We got Jeff McCarragher out of that, and later Everett, so we didn’t have a major drop off in announcing.

These were the posts about it from 2010.

To tag onto that, Aaron got a good job at Clemson. Don't know if he's still there. Joe Hull gets credit for Natasha. Can we get her back? Delaware probably not her dream job.
Nice to see an old post from intermodal coug. Did he end up in Delaware, too? Did he ever take his family to Disney World? This November would be good.

I know he and the "great" Joe Hull had a major disagreement at that time and things fell out

Why did Jeff McCarragher leave CofC? Did he get a permanent position at ASN?

FWIW, I think Everett has really developed into an excellent play-by-play man. We are fortunate to have him.

It was not a pretty breakup. I think part of the problem was Tony had two jobs as both the announcer and the SID. I don't think they will ever let the same person do both again.

Hungry, Intermodal is living in Philadelphia now so go to the Drexel game and you will see him:). I told him about the tourney at Disney so maybe he will surprise you and come.

Yep. That was when they hired the SID they have now, Marlene Navor. Kirkman was probably wanting one of their announcers to do something on their station (910 at the time). Ted Byrne was the only guy they had at the time (he is still there) so he automatically got the job.

Ciuffo dated back to at least two radio stations (I think CofC was on WTMA at one time, and they were on 98 Rock).

McCarragher is a freelance guy now during the college sports season. He called some CAA football games earlier this year. He also does the Norfolk Tides (Orioles AAA) games during the summer.
