Any early word on non-conference opponents home or away and early season tournament information?

I know we play The Citadel on the road next year. And we play Coastal I believe at home. We know comparatively little about the schedule otherwise. Davidson isn't on the schedule, and LSU isn't. All of Wojcik's scheduling obligations are mostly done with.

It is also time for our foreign trip as well. Swampy said we are going to Ireland over the summer. No details as of yet. Last foreign trip was '13 under Wojcik.

Am I the only one who thinks the GAS field is a little weak?

Just for gofer they will probably match us up with Alaska Anchorage first game. He loves playing those non div 1,teams

On a more serious note was told Citadel may not be played. Seems like they want us to pay them and play at our place. If true they can put it where the sun DoN'T shine

That won't make the local columnists and sports people happy...

The Great Alaska Shootout used to be one of the most prestigious of those holiday tourneys (because AK was outside the continuous US, and there was a rule that a team could count 3 games for 1 only there and in HI), but ESPN's tournaments (including the Charleston event) took away the major schools starting about a decade ago.

Next year there will be even more depletion because Nike has a 16 team tourney in Portland for Phil Knight's 80th birthday. Pretty much every major Nike school is in that tourney (UNC, Duke, Michigan State, Florida, Oregon, Texas, Ohio State, UConn).

Just for those that didnt look...
Cal Poly, CSU Bakersfield, Central Michigan, College of Charleston, Idaho, Sam Houston State and Santa Clara.

Man that is a pretty rough lineup. But I guess the way CSU Bakersfield is playing they may end up being NIT champs. (knocked out UT Arlington yesterday)

Why are we doing this? I don't see this as a big draw for our fans, plus it's a pain getting up there as well as frigid. Not to mention the field is weak.

Unless there was just nowhere else left, I don't see the point. If we don't have a few power 5 teams lined up then I really don't see the point because nothing there will help the SofS or RPI.

It's not great, but a three games in three days format has its value for us. Particularly against other mid major squads.

Earl can use the format as a trial for the CAA tournament which we have to win next year.

This is starting out to look like it could be the worse ooc schedule for the Cougars since they have been in div 1. Hope I am wrong

Maybe we can pick up a power 5 game on the way out or back. I get we need the tournament format, but it would be preferable to play closer to home. Especially if we're already going to Ireland in the summer.

We should accumulate a lot of wins next season, but it won't help for seeding, at large or NIT if we don't have some opportunities for big wins. The CAA will likely be weaker than usual next year too so we won't get any RPI help in conference.

Mark Singelais, the Albany Times-Union writer for Siena, says Siena will open up with a game at CofC to start the season next year (presumably Nov. 10).

@MarkSingelais: Hearing @SienaMBB will open at College of Charleston in November, then host Fla. Gulf Coast same weekend. Both top 100 RPI teams in 2016-17.

Any one else hear anything about the non-conference schedule? Looking really light for it almost being June.

Only like 3 or 4 schools have even released their non-conference schedule. Expect a lot more information in June and July, especially by August. Last year it was released at the end of July.

Our coaching staff is in a tough position. The word is out on our team - we're going to be better next year and we won 25 games this year. Power 5 schools don't want to play us (several SEC and ACC have either said no or won't return calls), mid-majors are reluctant to play us (Davidson and East Carolina both said no thanks after we whipped them last year) and smaller schools want us to pay them to play (hearing El Cid wants 75K and Wofford wants 90K). This is the same problem that lots of good mid-major schools go through. Nobody wanted to play Wichita State, Gonzaga, Butler, etc. during their runs. Wojcik had a much easier time scheduling because we sucked. Earl's staff is working really hard right now, but scheduling is a 2-way street. We can't make people play us. All we can do is ask.

I guess it's a good problem to have (having big schools scared to play you). The CAA will likely be a one bid league again no matter what so the non-league portion of the schedule will only really count for RPI and seeding IF we can win the conference tournament.

It's disappointing we couldn't land in a better early season tournament with some potential P5 matchups and that all of our 2 for 1's ran out when we have our best team in about a decade.

Jon Rothstein just announced that CofC will travel to Rhode Island as a part of the non-conference schedule this season coming up. That's a good game for scheduling purposes. Rhode Island was a few points away from a Sweet 16 berth last year.

We can play 13 games if we play a non bracketed game in GAS. Already one scheduled between Idaho and Sam Houston State. Central Michigan would be best guess of who we would try and do one with.

1. Great Alaska Shootout
2. Great Alaska Shootout
3. Great Alaska Shootout
4. Non Bracketed game in Great Alaska Shootout if we choose to
5. Coastal Carolina
6. At UNC-Charlotte
7. At Rhode Island
8. Siena
9. ?
10. ?
11. ?
12. ?
13.?

Hope we get at least one P5 game.

I know there must be a website that lists teams that need to fill on their schedules and I feel sure the coaches use it..Not being involved but it seems that would make it easier to find opponents. Am I wrong to assume this?

It used to be posted online (Basketballtravelers), but this year they moved that info behind a "wall". Only coaches can read the info. Previously it was free for everyone to look at.

Well Toccoa Falls released their schedule and they have Charleston Southern, Liberty, Mercer and Presbyterian on it. The Citadel must have finally let them out of their multi year deal.
